Description: This original copper plate engraving is designed, engraved, hand-printed, painted with watercolor and signed in pencil by artist Timothy Jon Struna. The edition is limited to 100. "Cape Cod Christmas 2009" is the ninth in a series of Cape Cod lighthouses at Christmastime. The Monomoy Light or Sandy Point was commissioned in 1823. It helped sailors navigate around the sandy peninsula that extended south from Chatham. Several light keepers, including one woman, enjoyed the solitude and praise for saving many travelers when the weather took a nasty turn in the Atlantic seas. In 1914, it was decommissioned with the building of the Cape Cod Canal and the increased intensity of the Chatham Light, which was located closer to town.
